The list is based on the National Trust’s 50 things to do before you’re 11¾.

Dr Robert Murray, a paediatrician, says that a reduction in outdoor time during the winter could be due to a fear of cold weather and the effort it takes for parents to get children ready to go outside. When the weather is severe, Dr Murray recommends indoor activities that encourage an appreciation of the outdoor environment.

The Association of Play Industries (API) says that the ‘alarming rate’ at which playgrounds in south west England continue to close could have a negative impact on children. According to the API, the closures will worsen the obesity problem and create more mental health issues amongst children and young people. The research from 2016 found that local authorities have closed 347 playgrounds across England since 2014.
