To meet the play needs of all children in Wales and all those who work where children play, Play Wales has developed a suite of qualifications known as Playwork: Principles into Practice or P3

These consist of a level 2 and a level 3 playwork qualification. They have been extensively piloted in Wales, and are available as a qualification on the Qualifications Credit Framework, endorsed by SkillsActive, the sector skills council for active leisure, learning and wellbeing.

P3 can be delivered in English or in Welsh.

Each qualification comprises an Award, Certificate and Diploma, with specially designed learning materials available for each part.

P3 review

We are in the process of reviewing P3 during 2018 and early 2019. The new Playwork: Principles into Practice qualification is being developed as part of our partnership with Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales and Agored Cymru.

It is our intention that the smaller qualifications we have developed, the Level 2 Award in Playwork Practice (L2APP) and the Managing a Holiday Play Scheme Award (MAHPS) will form units of the Level 2 and 3 qualifications respectively. This means that learners with these qualifications will have already completed part of the full P3 qualification.

We will be consulting with the sector on the proposed units, size of the qualifications and final content during 2018 and will be piloting the teaching and learning in 2019.

The updated P3 will be available for first delivery from September 2019.
