P3 courses are designed so learners gain understanding and skills in a progressive incremental way.

Each part (Award, Certificate and Diploma) builds on the foundations of the previous course, reinforcing and extending learning. Together the three parts make up the full qualification. This modular approach allows learners some flexibility in achieving their qualification, however there are no optional units.

As well as attending class learners are expected to carry out playwork practice in order to put into practice what they have learnt. Playwork practice hours can be paid or unpaid (voluntary) and undertaken at any suitable setting where learners facilitate children's play. These hours are important as they allow time for learners to put into practice what they have learnt and they are part of the course requirements.
