Child's play programme Round Two

Ten regional infrastructure projects throughout Wales were funded through Round One of the Child's Play strand of the BIG Lottery Fund's (BIG) £20 million Healthy Families programme.

All the projects aim to meet the programme priorities by building on the infrastructure that supports the development of children's play in Wales. As part of this initiative, Regional Groups for each project were established.  These groups were the mechanism for identifying gaps and agreeing priorities for investment at a local level and developed projects to meet them through Round Two of the programme.

The infrastructure projects completed an audit exercise to map and audit play provision that will help identify gaps in each local authority area.  The audits contributed to the identification of gaps and local priorities in play provision, and they provided a strategic evidence of need for the development of any application to the fund for strategic play projects. The regional groups developed applications for Round Two.

BIG Lottery expected a mited number of strategic play projects bids to funded through the Child's Play programme.  The programme guidance notes indicated that BIG expected one organisation per area to be identified as a lead applicant.
