It is widely accepted that all children and young people need to encounter risk by creating uncertainty and unpredictability in their play, as part of a healthy childhood.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has stated that when planning and providing play opportunities, the goal is not to eliminate risk, but to weigh up the risks and benefits.
The seminar includes a keynote presentation by Professor David Ball, Professor of Risk Management and co-Director of the Centre for Decision Analysis and Risk Management at Middlesex University.
David has acted as a consultant on decision making for most government departments and safety regulators, and for international agencies and the private sector on safety issues. He is a member of the UK Play Safety Forum and has co-authored Managing Risk in Play Provision: Implementation guide and other publications around play and risk.
