Play Must Stay – new API campaign
A new campaign – Play Must Stay – launched by the Association of Play Industries (API) is calling for an investment in public playgrounds and for a UK Government Cabinet Minister for Children & Young People.
The campaign is based on a Mumsnet survey commissioned by API of over 1100 parents of children aged 2 to 12 across the UK. The survey findings include:
- ‘61% of parents with access to a playground said it makes their child play outside more’
- ‘35% of parents have experienced closure or neglect of their local playground’
- ‘Almost half of parents said overall said their child prefers screen time over other activities’, but this increases to ‘70% for children aged 10-12’.
