Play sufficiency in Scotland

The newly passed Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 contains a section on the requirement for local authorities to carry out a play sufficiency assessment. This means that a planning authority must assess the sufficiency of play opportunities for children in its area in preparing an evidence report.

The Scottish Parliament Act also includes clear duties around the participation of children and young people in local development plans. This means a planning authority must make appropriate arrangements to promote and facilitate participation by children and young people (a person aged 25 or under) in the preparation of the local development plan.

Play Scotland will be contributing to the development of the guidance that will support the Act.
