Update on the Ministerial Play Review

In a written statement, the Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services, Julie Morgan AM, provides an update on the Ministerial Play Review that is currently being undertaken. In the statement, the Deputy Minister reiterates Welsh Government’s commitment to support children’s right to play and sets out the purpose of the review:

‘The aim of the review is therefore to assess where we are now with respect to play policy and to inform how we develop and progress the play agenda in future years. The review will consider the progress made in achieving our vision for play and whether our vision remains relevant. It will set out the steps that need to be taken to progress the play agenda in order to achieve the vision.’

The review will give further consideration to the following areas:

  • Settings registration / regulation and exceptions
  • Play Sufficiency Duty, funding and cross policy working
  • The workforce
  • Spatial justice and societal involvement.

The Deputy Minister will consult on any changes to play policy in Wales recommended by the review in 2020.
