How cities and local governments can support outdoor play
The Bernard van Leer Foundation’s newly published Six ways cities can support babies, toddlers and their caregivers during the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond brief presents ideas on how cities and local governments can support babies, toddlers and families during and after the coronavirus pandemic.
Since the coronavirus pandemic, access to public space and nature has been restricted in many cities, affecting opportunities for outdoor play. The foundation suggests expanding pavements by using parking and car lanes. This would allow more space for parents and carers to take their babies and toddlers outside to play. Additionally, the foundation recommends opening schoolyards as playgrounds for families with toddlers to allow them to play outdoors.
