Welsh Government guidance on face coverings in childcare settings

The Welsh Government has updated the Protective measures in childcare settings: Keep Childcare Safe guidance to note that the wearing of face coverings is not mandatory in childcare settings.

Following from the First Minister’s announcement about face coverings being mandatory in indoor public space in Wales from 14 September 2020, the childcare guidance has been updated to note that childcare settings are not considered to be public space. It states that childcare settings should consider a range of interventions in their risk assessment to operate safely, which could include the use of face coverings. If the setting feels the use of face coverings would be needed, careful consideration should be given on using appropriately and to ensure the needs of children are met.

The Welsh Government’s Face Coverings Guidance for Premises also makes clear that childcare settings are not required to compel the use of face coverings in all parts of the premises in which social distancing cannot be maintained.
