Play Safety Forum calls for balanced approach to Covid-19 and play

In a new statement, the Play Safety Forum (PSF) calls for a balanced approach to the government’s decision-making in relation to Covid-19 and children’s play. The statement also outlines key facts about coronavirus and children’s play.

It builds on two previous statements from the PSF, published in June and September 2020. All three statements highlight concerns about children’s opportunities to play being reduced because of the pandemic

In the Covid-19 and Children’s Play – July 2021 statement, the PSF argues: ‘Rather than taking a narrow, exclusive focus on infection control, guidance should explicitly highlight the benefits of outdoor play, and ensure that decision-makers take into account these benefits, and the potential side-effects of control measures. Experience and evidence so far show that in general, keeping children’s play facilities open is a proportionate and reasonable response.’
