Updated guidance for childcare and playwork providers

The Welsh Government has updated the coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance for childcare and play services providers, including open access play and Flying Start provision.

Advice about testing children under five has been added to the Guidance for childcare and playwork: coronavirus. It explains:

  • That it is no longer recommended that children under five undertake COVID-19 tests on day two and eight if identified as a close contact
  • That it is no longer recommended that children under five with COVID-19 symptoms undertake a test unless directed to do so by a doctor or if parents believe a test is absolutely necessary and in the best interests of the child
  • That symptomatic children under five should not attend a childcare setting until their symptoms have resolved.

The reference to the Workforce Risk Assessment Tool has been removed from the guidance as it was developed before the rollout of vaccinations and does not take into account the high level of vaccinated adults in the workplace. However, the Welsh Government emphasis that there is still a need for COVID-19 risk assessments in the workplace.

The Action Cards and Frequently Asked Questions have also been updated to reflect the changes.
